Solar Panels and Treated Wood No Longer Accepeted at OC Landfills

TWW and Solar Panels

As of January 1, 2021, OC landfills will be unable to accept Treated Wood Waste (TWW) TWW as waste for disposal at our sites. This measure is in response to expiring state waivers handed down by the California Department of Toxic Substances Control. TWW can most easily be classified as any wood treated with chemical preservatives to protect it from insects or decay. Often known for its light brown to dark green color, treated wood can include fence posts, sill plates, landscape timbers, pilings, guard rails, decking, patio posts, railroad ties, and more.

Additionally, solar panels are now considered Universal or E-Waste and will not be accepted at OC Landfills. For more information, CLICK HERE. Residents and businesses are encouraged to visit our Business Hazardous Waste page for a list of private companies who may accept solar panels for disposal. Please contact them directly with any questions.
