Preserving Citrus in California

Did you know California is the nation’s leading provider of fresh citrus fruit, like oranges, mandarins and lemons? Because we want to protect this valuable resource and never let anything go to waste, it is important to be aware of the current threat to California citrus.

A plant disease called Huanglongbing or citrus greening disease, which isn’t harmful to humans, is fatal to citrus trees and has no cure. The disease is spread by a pest called Asian Citrus Psyllid that feeds on the leaves of citrus trees. In order to protect our citrus, we all need to do our part.
