The curriculum-based program was designed to:
- Align with the County’s goal to provide critical regional leadership in response to industry-transforming legislation
- Maximize existing County and OCDE educational resources and materials to control costs
- Support both OCWR and OCDE’s education requirements
Key deliverables included:
- An OCWR materials analysis
- An OCDE assessment and determination of target grade levels
- Identification of target science standards and related EP&Cs
- Identification of pilot schools and teachers
- Teacher marketing plan
- Measurement and analysis plan (established KPIs)
- Standards-based curriculum development
- Pilot launch and analysis
- County wide launch by year two
- Ongoing evaluation, revision and expansion in subsequent years
Timeframe for development and implementation
Year One: PILOT YEAR PROJECT PLAN
Month One (7/01/2020-7/31/2020)
- Materials audit (for initial grade level target)
- Implementation plan (to identify participating school districts)
- Teacher focus group recruitment (pre-publication review of all materials)
- Teacher marketing plan
- Assessment and evaluation plan (Logic Model with Key Performance Indicators)
Months Two – Five (8/01/2020-11/30/2020)
- Curriculum design – -- to support academic content frameworks and integrate OCWR resources
- Family engagement – develop take-home activities that expand on existing OCWR resources
- Create print and digital, mobile-friendly formats
- School and Family rewards program – -- to incentivize classroom and take-home activities
- Expand language to Spanish and Vietnamese
Months Six – Ten (12/1/2020 – 4/30/2021)
- Launch of digital marketing and outreach campaign (pilot school recruitment)
- Implement pilot program
- Distribute pilot phase curriculum
- Ongoing outreach via open houses, science nights and PTA meetings
- Two teacher workshops (one prior to start, one at end of pilot)
- Highlight student, teacher and family stories to increase awareness and demand for resources
Months Eleven and Twelve (5/1/2021 – 6/30/2021)
- Evaluation and report/analysis
Year Two (21-22 School Year):
- Expansion of 5th grade curriculum to more requirements and family engagement activities
- Full scale launch of 5th grade program to all schools
- Created new programs for kindergarten, second grade and sixth grade levels
